A downloadable game

Story

When a newly built robot sets out to prove their worth to their creator, they'll find that their journey will break the black-and-white worldview imposed upon them. Perhaps you will be able to make their life better?

Take control of this robo-ally through 4 colourful worlds of joy (...or gloom) in a platformer with mind-bending gimmicks! ...Well, not very mind-bending, but still interesting enough!

What's the selling point?

The platformer uses quite a few interesting gimmicks per level. For each level to stand out,  I would want a differing gimmick per stage to differentiate each level. To give the game a sense of charm, I'd want to give off a slightly silly vibe to the game's writing so as to keep it engaging throughout, given the demographic this game is for (teens and older).

While this game doesn't have a largely unique selling point at first glance...there'll be a bit of a surprise later on in the game that'll help it stand out a bit more.

But you'll have to wait until the game's done to find out, as I don't want to spoil it early on!

General details

-Platformer for ages 13+.

-Consists of 4 main worlds, split up into several levels.

-Move through several different biomes and find important collectibles across your journey.

About the creator!

Hello! Here's a few details to get to know me a bit more.

My name's Tolani (as you can already imagine). I'm a young aspiring game dev with this project essentially being the first proper one I'm working on. I've always had the most amount of interest in platformers, so my aim for this project once I've gotten it off the ground is to make a full-length platformer with interesting narrative elements to boot. Keep in mind that much of what you see here is evidently not final.

Some of my favourite series include Mario, Kirby and Donkey Kong, and one of my favourite one-off games includes Undertale. My goal is to implement elements from each of these for this game, and I'm looking forward to the final result!

Additional detail about me, I have about six years of experience using FL Studio, a music-composing software. Some of the downloadable files below are some themes I quickly made for the game, so check them out whenever.

No confirmed release date yet, but I'll try and keep you updated! Feel free to follow my Instagram for other content...I may post some stuff about the game there!

Branding

Logos are a slight work in progress...but I'd say they look quite nice currently!

A detail you might pick on is the difference in art style in the poster, with there being more than one type of brush used. The darker part of the poster, being the area submerged in shade, uses a crayon-like brush, with the brighter part of the poster using a furry airbrush. The general idea I had in mind was that, with the main character being designed as a robot from a more gloomy land, I wanted to reflect on that a bit by having them submerged in shade due to having a more narrow-minded view on life imposed on them by their creator. This will make more sense when I drop more story details if it is slightly confusing right now.

The logos use a more robotic font with a glitchy aesthetic, partly because the character is a robot, and also because their coding is faulty. Noticeably though, I aimed for a colour gradient for both the thumbnail and poster logos, which serve as a transition from darkness to light. Think of it in terms of the main character and their transition from being born from a dark place and entering a world of light that helps shape who they are as a person.

Where will the game release?

Currently, I have the idea to release the game on these platforms:

...And that's it.

If the game goes big, I'll be happy to get it on official consoles too, would be great. In the meantime, I hope you have a PC at your disposal!

Downloads

Below I have a list of things that you can download and check out, including:

-Excerpts of music I have made in FL Studio which I may use

-The prototype in its current form + assets needed for it (currently it isn't in a build as I have been unable to properly build the prototype, plus the prototype doesn't have too much to it and is slightly buggy)

-A mood board for the areas in the game

-Logos and poster for downloading

-A rough storyboard for an early trailer I'm making for the game

Check them out whenever you can! The build is currently free until I really get development going.

Tools I Use

The tools I currently use are FL Studio (Music/SFX), Krita (Key Art/Animations), Unity (Level design), and Piskel (sprite work). More tools might be added here in the future.
